"ENGLEWOOD - From the moment she saw Lindsey Vance, a then-teenaged Mildred Vance knew he was the man for her.
"I told my sister when I went home that Sunday, 'I saw the man I'm going to marry,'" 96-year-old Mildred said.
She first spotted her husband-to-be in a Sunday school class in their Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Lindsey Vance, though, was first unaware he had an admirer.
"I didn't see her. She just saw me," the 98-year-old laughed.
It wasn't long before the couple got married. On Thursday, they celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary.
"I'm the luckiest man in the world," Lindsey Vance said.
The couple says the key to a successful marriage is to respect one another and to stay committed.
"Get to know each other and know that you're doing something that you're going to continue through life," Mildred Vance said.
Lindsey and Mildred, who have two daughters, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, have lived active lives. Only recently have they moved into an assisted living facility.
Family members and friends from church joined them for Thursday's 77th anniversary celebration.
The Vances are looking forward to celebrating even more in the future.
"I love him as much today as the day we met," Mildred Vance said."
